Welcome Young Knights

 Incoming 6th graders and any new students entering 7th or 8th grade

Walter C. Young will be holding a new student orientation on
Thursday August 20 either at 10AM or 2PM

You do not need to attend both sessions, the same information will be given at each session.

We will be discussing dress code, supplies, policies and procedures, and what to expect as a Walter C. Young Knight!


Schedules will be posted on Virtual Counselor for students to see on Friday August 21, 2015

School Hours

8:30 a.m. Morning supervision begins

8:55 a.m. First bell
9:00 a.m. Classes begin
3:30 p.m. Dismissal
4:00 p.m. Office closes


Prior to entering the 7th grade, all students must provide a Florida Certificate of Immunization (DH 680) stating that their immunizations are complete for 7th grade entry.  Please note that in addition to compliance with all other required immunizations, children entering the 7th grade in Florida schools must have received one dose of the tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccine.You may request the form from your child’s physician’s office or visit a public health center. More information regarding public health centers can be found at: http://browardchd.org/ or coordinated school services

Only original 680 DH forms are accepted, please do not turn in copies. The form must have the signature of the responsible healthcare provider, either by hand or by means of an electronic signature verification ID from Florida SHOTS.

Please review the form prior to turning it in to the registrar’s office because forms with errors will not meet state requirements.

Suggested Supplies

Please have your child come to school with basic supplies such as a backpack, a book that your child likes to read, lined paper, pens (red,blue, black), #2 pencils, one subject notebook, folders with prongs and pockets, a USB drive, highlighters, handheld sharpener, a ruler, etc. Your child will receive a set of books to keep at school and a set to take home as we do not provide lockers.

If your child will be taking a Physical Education (PE) class. The coaches will explain the purchase of the PE uniforms. The cost for uniforms is $20.00.

We need your empty print cartridges, 
used cell phones or tablets

Walter C. Young Middle School recycles used ink cartridges and cell phones. Help our school and also help save Mother Earth by recycling.  You can send all your empty print cartridges and used cell phones to the main office or contact Ms. Chanzes at 754-323-4500 for any questions you may have.
